Who is your favorite musical artist, and why?
I honestly have way too many favorite artists from different genres, but if I really had to choose one, it would probably be Frank Ocean. It’s ironic because whenever my sister played his songs when I was about 11? 12? I would always tell her “turn that lovey dovey music off!”. It was until she left for college, I dove deep into his songs and appreciated the meaning behind his lyrics, a few of them I related to. He plays a significant role in my life.
Where did your passion for music stem from? Is there anyone who inspired you in particular?
I’ve been exposed to music at a very young age, maybe ever since I was born. My father was a Dj since he was my age, his passion for music was passed along to me and my two other siblings. I remember being introduced to his favorite 80s New Wave hits in the car, which grew to be my favorite genre till now. These hits included songs by The Cure, The Smiths, Fra Lippo Lippi, etc. In my junior year, I started playing instruments such as the piano and the electric guitar, though I have yet to master them.
What have you discovered about yourself or others through working at TCC?
Being on TCC, I was able to challenge my designing skills, as we are limited to a specific theme and program. Researching and creating these social media posts made me learn more about the different aspects of music. I’ve discovered new artists and songs from our Musician Mondays and Thursday Tunes, and learned about the scientific aspect of music from our Fact Fridays as well. It also made me realize how much music plays such a big role to so many people’s lives.
What is the most rewarding part of being a part of TCC?
The most rewarding part of being a member of TCC is the compassionate community it holds. Ever since I became a member, not one has ever made me feel unwelcomed. Everyone is so friendly to one another. I love how we could share all of our opinions, interests, and our “teas” without being judged.
What extracurriculars (clubs, organizations, sports, etc.) are you involved in outside of TCC?
Outside of TCC, I’m also a graphic designer for The Lilac Blog, a society and culture website. Other than that, I’m usually seen facing the computer designing in Illustrator, making art, baking, and running or strength training.
What are your dreams or aspirations in life?
After college or university, I truly aspire to do graphic design for a living, specifically in the music or film industry. Just the thought of it is giving me butterflies right now.
