Who is your favorite musical artist, and why?

Currently, I don’t have any particular favorite artist, but my favorite type of music is k-pop because of the variety and style. I can find pretty much any song for any feeling, as well as so many songs that just make me feel this inexplicable sensation, so it’s difficult to select one from the wide range. My favorite groups include, but are not limited to: NCT, GOT7, Stray Kids, Itzy, ONEUS, and more.

Where did your passion for music stem from? Is there anyone who inspired you in particular?

My music journey all started when I began piano at age 5, and so it’s been quite a meaningful part for my whole life. I used to love learning new songs when I was younger, and was dedicated to even play in the mornings before school. I loved performing in front of my family, as their happiness watching me play encouraged me to keep going. However, later in elementary school, I could finally participate in my school’s music program, which was very diverse and extensive. I had the chance to try many things from singing in a choir to learning the ukulele. When middle school came around, this was where I could participate in the band program and where my passion for music clicked. Although my other music teachers were very enthusiastic and encouraging, my band teacher in particular was very generous and passionate. From the beginning, she was very open to exploration and trying new things, and even allowed all students to explore all aspects, including trying all the instruments. From there, she helped me improve my skills and connection with the band, and inspired me to continue pursuing it to this day.

What have you discovered about yourself or others through working at TCC?

Being on TCC, it gives me many opportunities, from designing posts, writing/reading about music in unique ways, to creating art, listening to talented musicians, and much more. Especially for the artistic tasks, I discovered how much I enjoy designing and creating. I’ve also gained a deeper understanding of the power of music towards myself and others. Music is so diverse and can connect to so many concepts, such as art and writing, along with bringing people together on a global scale. I’ve never given myself the time to explore these types of things, so I’m really grateful to have this opportunity on The Cantabile Collective team.

What is the most rewarding part of being a part of TCC?

I think the most rewarding part is having the chance to contribute to this diverse organization, along with getting to know the supportive and incredibly passionate members of TCC. It feels so reassuring to know such an amazing and bonded team, which inspires me to continue loving music in different ways.

What extracurriculars (clubs, organizations, sports, etc.) are you involved in outside of TCC?

At school, I’m part of the robotics, math, STEM, and video clubs, as well as an enthusiastic member of the high school concert band as a clarinetist. During the week, I’m mostly found playing badminton or practicing karate when I’m physically active. On top of TCC, I’m part of the organizations Femme in STEAM and Youth Helping Youth. I love to help others and the community, learn about STEM-related topics, and tap into my creative side.

What are your dreams or aspirations in life?

I hope to gain a better understanding of the world around me so that I can make an impact in my community, by helping others and sharing my knowledge and passions. In the future, I’m thinking of going into the field of STEM, particularly Technology and Design aspects; however, this is still unconfirmed at the moment, as I’m still exploring new things.
