An Intrinsic Part of Nature

By: Clara Pressey

An intrinsic part of nature.

As intrinsic as the birds,

who sing themselves to sleep at night

and awake the next morning.

Whose fluted notes wrap around

the trees

and fly over the thresholds

of doors

and windows

and minds.

As intrinsic as the wind,

whose all-encompassing aura

holds the world in its comforting embrace,

creating warmth and coldness,

either rough or soft,

like a blanket of sensation.

As intrinsic as the water,

powerful and intense,

inspiring and dangerous,

the root of all life.
