A Tree's Life

thump, thump

a rabbit bounces by

gurgle, gurgle

the stream bubbles

chirp, chirp

crickets scream

into the night air

listening to the noises around me

years turn to decades, decades to centuries

but the sounds don’t change

swish, swish

my leaves fall

plop, plop

she builds a home

crrr, crrr

baby birds stir
